ANSA National Meeting – recommended by ARI Treasurer, Digby Lund
The ANSA conference was held on 22nd April @ the Arden Hotel near Birmingham and was attended by around 100 delegates from across the UK and ROI. Industry support came in the form of stands from came 5 companies. The program was wide ranging and started with a debate on the recently updated NICE Guidelines on management in CKD, the title, “Help or Hindrance”. This in turn led to a lively discussion with the general conclusion being that though helpful the application of guidance needed to be tailored to the needs of the patient. Other presentations discussed the management of anaemia in AKI and Cardiology patients, highlighting how the role of anaemia nurses continues to expand. After a session of rare inherited diseases the afternoon consisted of two workshops, one on Challenging Decisions for non medical prescribes and Best Practice in Venous Cannumation. Again being interactive these gave an insight into how the responsibilities of the ANSA membership increased with many being themselves prescribes. Overall an excellent program and a meeting that I would urge any company with an interest in anaemia management to attend.
